Our Global Vision - We want Colorado communities that are healthy, active, happy and safe.

Who we are

The Colorado Public Health/Parks & Recreation (PHPR)Collaborative is a group of multi-sector professionals seeking to improve the health of all communities in Colorado through education, connection and collaboration.

We utilize a "collective impact" model as a foundation for our networking collaborative. We're making a difference all over Colorado by breaking down silos, creating open dialogue and building relationships

Our History

The PHPR Collaborative was born when parks, recreation, and public health realized they were chasing the same goal—healthier communities—but speaking totally different languages. The shared mission to eliminate childhood obesity in Colorado sparked a connection, and from there, the conversations (and collaborations) took off.

Meanwhile, the Colorado Community Center Collaborative (CCCC) was making waves in Colorado Springs—bringing together rec pros, academics, nurses, and nonprofits to tackle big issues like obesity, teen pregnancy, substance abuse, and violence.

Then came a serendipitous collision: two passionate rec professionals and a public health educator aiming to unite parks, public health, and recreation. Sparks flew (in the best way), and the group started growing, sharing ideas, presenting at conferences, and finding new ways to weave health into the fabric of our communities—all with a little help from the Colorado Parks & Recreation Association.
